The 5 Pillars of physical competency

The full capability of the human animal, broken down in to its individual pieces.

The very foundation of movement - yet so often neglected!

Simply stated, poor mobility makes everything else more difficult than it needs to be.  In pillar 1 we look at the very most basic principles of moving correctly.

Starting with the basics, like touching your toes, you will begin to understand your own body and the range of motion you should have in each joint. Ultimately working up to full splits and more.

Athleticism and strength mean nothing if you don't move well!

As the name suggests, pillar 2 focuses on how we move.  This starts with basics like simple running technique., moving through movements most of us could do as children but perhaps don't do as well in adulthood, like forward rolls. Right up to advanced movements like aerials.

The only reason most adults start exercise, but far from the only part of training that matters!

This is where we look at what most people associate most with the idea of 'training' - lifting weights.  Start by learning the basics of technique and progress to lifting multiples of your bodyweight in each of the major compound lifts.

Master your own bodyweight.

The word "Calisthenics" comes from the Greek words "kallos"(strength) and "sthenos" (beauty) and literally means, 'beautiful strength'.  Nothing else better sums up the principles of calisthenics than this.

From basics, like push ups, to some the most difficult moves like the full planche, calisthenics is the art of using one's own bodyweight as resistance to enhance the physique.

Put all the rest together to run faster, jump higher and further and generally perform better.

Centred primarily around the Strength Lab Combine, a test of all round athleticism, in pillar 5 we look at turning our new found strength, mobility, ability to move well and mastery of our own bodyweight to real practical use.

This is also where we work on cardiovascular fitness. It's no use being strong, mobile and fast if you get gassed too quickly!
